Cricket scorecard decoder
Translate a team total, wickets and overs into plain English, with the arithmetic shown.

YOUR WORKED RESULT
Read 147/4 after 16.2
This illustrative score means the team has 147 runs, has lost four wickets, and has completed 98 legal deliveries. Its current scoring rate is exactly 9.00 runs per six-ball over. The slash separates runs and wickets; it is not a division sign.
The score is only one layer
A full card separates each batter’s runs from the extras column. Adding the batting runs and all extras should reproduce the team total. The bowling analysis uses legal balls and runs charged to the bowler, so byes and leg byes can make its aggregate differ from the team total. That difference is not automatically an error.
What the decoder does not know
It cannot tell whether 147 is competitive without the format, target, conditions and stage of the match. It assumes a standard eleven-player side when explaining available wickets; injuries, retirements and competition arrangements can end an innings differently. It does not fetch a live score or verify the numbers you type.
A quick practice question
Enter 120/3 at 15.0, then 120/3 at 15.5. The runs and wickets are unchanged, but five more legal balls lower the current rate from 8.00 to 7.58. A score summary should always include its ball count.
